Black Myth: Wukong Update Arrives October 13 — Performance Boosts and Bug Fixes Across All Platforms

Game Science has officially announced a major Black Myth: Wukong update releasing on October 13, 2025, bringing a wave of technical improvements, stability fixes, and visual refinements to the acclaimed action RPG. The patch, rolling out gradually on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, focuses on optimizing performance and addressing long-standing bugs that players have reported since launch.

Before You Update — A Few Important Notes

  • Mods May Cause Crashes:
PC players using mods should uninstall them before updating. The new version changes core files, which could cause compatibility issues or prevent the game from launching.
  • PS5 Storage Requirement:
PlayStation 5 users will need around 93.5 GB of free space to install the patch. The update rewrites large chunks of game data, so make sure your console has enough room before proceeding.
  • Gradual Release:
The update is rolling out region by region, so it may not appear immediately for every player.
  • Shader Compilation on PC:
After the update, PC users may see shader recompilation on first launch. If the game crashes during this step, simply restart or skip the process.

Major Technical Improvements

🔧 PC Enhancements

This update brings a suite of upgrades aimed at smoother gameplay and sharper visuals on PC:

  • AMD FSR 4.0 Support:
The latest version of AMD’s upscaling technology is now fully integrated. Players with supported GPUs can enable it in settings after updating their drivers.
  • Improved “Compatible Mode”:
This safer mode disables ray tracing, frame generation, and other demanding features for a more stable experience on lower-end hardware.
  • Smarter Graphics Presets:
Default visual settings have been adjusted to better fit the new rendering pipeline.
  • Lighting & Motion Blur Tweaks:
Low-level global illumination now looks more natural, and motion blur has been refined to reduce jagged edges during fast movements.
  • Performance Stability:
Optimized CPU and memory usage to reduce stutters, especially in large battles or open areas.
  • Bug Fixes for Upscaling Tech:
Issues with ghosting, flickering, and rendering artifacts when using NVIDIA DLSS or NXSR have been fixed. Crashes caused by enabling both DLSS Frame Generation and Ray Tracing are also resolved.

🎮 PlayStation 5 Improvements

Console players get an equally meaningful upgrade, with performance and visual fidelity both seeing attention:

  • Revamped Performance Mode:
A new 60Hz Performance Mode offers smoother gameplay with reduced input lag and improved resolution. The old version is still available as “Performance Mode (Legacy).”
  • Sharper Textures and Faster Loading:
Game assets now load more efficiently, and environmental textures appear crisper across multiple zones.
  • Improved Stability and Memory Management:
CPU and rendering optimizations should result in fewer frame drops or hiccups during intense scenes.
  • Motion Blur & Camera Improvements:
Adjustments reduce aliasing when turning the camera, offering a cleaner, more cinematic feel.

⚔️ Gameplay & Quality-of-Life Updates

Beyond technical tuning, a few gameplay refinements have been added to polish the experience:

  • The Yaoguai King “Giant Shigandang” boss fight has been rebalanced for smoother pacing.
  • The Journeyer’s Chart interface now provides clearer guidance when the chart hasn’t been obtained.
  • In the Load Journey menu, the “Cleared” label is now easier to read.

🌍 Localization & Accessibility

The October 13 update expands the game’s reach with Czech language support and dozens of localization fixes. Subtitles, UI text, and voiceovers have been cleaned up for better consistency across languages, with overlapping text and translation errors corrected.

Key Bug Fixes

A number of long-standing bugs have been addressed:

  • Fixed a bug where the Yaoguai Chief “Top Takes Bottom & Bottom Takes Top” could become unbeatable under specific conditions.
  • Resolved rendering issues with the iron ball in that same encounter.
  • Eliminated ghosting and edge flicker on PS5.
  • Fixed NXSR rendering artifacts on PC.
  • Corrected XeSS 2.0 frame generation errors on select displays.
  • Numerous text alignment and translation fixes across multiple UI screens.

What This Update Means for Players

This update doesn’t add new story content, but it’s one of the most technically impactful patches Black Myth: Wukong has received so far. The goal is clear: make the game run better for everyone—whether you’re exploring ancient temples on PC or battling mythical beasts on console.

  • PC players will see the biggest gains thanks to FSR 4.0 and CPU optimizations.
  • PS5 players can enjoy steadier framerates and faster transitions between zones.
  • Mod users should proceed with caution and ensure clean installs before patching.

In short, this update represents a major step forward in stability and polish—laying a stronger technical foundation for whatever Game Science has planned next.

Black Myth: Wukong’s October 13 update is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
